The community of Beatrice is located on the Big Blue River in Gage County, Nebraska approximately 40 miles south of Lincoln. Beatrice has about 13,000 residents and is surrounded by agricultural country. Settled in 1859, Beatrice was incorporated as a town in 1871 and became a city two years later. Beatrice is rich with history and is home to the Homestead National Monument of America (http://www.nps.gov/) where visitors can learn the story of Homesteading at a brand new Heritage Center situated just off of what is known to be the very first Homesteaded land in America. In addition to its historic small-town feel and convenient proximity to Lincoln, residents of Beatrice enjoy a cost of living 23% below the national average and a relatively low unemployment rate. What’s Going OnThere is always something to do in Beatrice! The community is very supportive of its schools and on most weekend nights you will find residents at the Beatrice High School supporting their Orangemen and Lady Orange. In addition to school-related activities, on any given night, residents can see a production at the community playhouse, participate in a golf tournament at one of two golf courses, attend a local charity event or just go to dinner and a movie. For people who like to be active, Beatrice boasts an extensive Hike and Bike Trail system, two health clubs and an excellent YMCA. Residents of Hannibal View always have something to do as they live right next door to one of the city’s most loved parks!
